Nearing the End

Endorsements are coming in as we near the end of the race for MD Guv. In a surprise move, the ultra lib WaPo has endorsed Ehrlich. A look at the latest article in regards to both candidates can be found here:

O'Malley Has Made Enemies For Himself, Allies for Ehrlich - washingtonpost.com

On the other side the Afro, a B-more based paper specializing in AA issues, has endorsed O'Malley along with the Firefighters Union.

As the end nears and the race gets more interesting. Who will be the winner? In November we shall all know.

Today's Police Blotter -Bmore City

Today's Politics

The Wild People

More in the political arena for the Baltimore area. Deposed Commish and State Superintendant Ed Norris invited both Ehrlich and O'Malley for a radio debate on the show. O'Malley did not show up even with the offer from Norris to leave the room due to personal differences. *Ahem.

Governor Ehrlich, on the other hand made an appearance and spoke for upward of an hour. Hey, Ed, how come you have no PodCast like the rest of the hosts? Anywho, the Guv spoke on the arrest situation in B-more and the subsequent non charging of thousands of City citizens. It kinda does give the appearance of odd ball arrests which brings me to agree with Delegate Jill Carter's assessment. If the Guv thinks some arrests are "unwarranted" he needs to back those calling for a review...put your money where your mouth is, sporty. Over 300K arrests were kicked back last year.

Wow! According to the article, the BPD made over 1 million arrests last year and still had 42 out of every 100K killed! Looks like someone may possibly be arresting the wrong people.

Meanwhile a couple people, two that I noted before going to sleep, were shot and killed on the mean streets.

The Schools

What's up with this? An 8 yr old gets arrested for discharging a weapon in school? Tell me, was that show and tell day? Twice this week, schools were plagued with shootings nearby. Today's shooting looks to have occurred on school grounds by way of drive-by. Someone shot several times into a crowd of youngsters standing at a local high school.

BPD and Corrections News

Someone hit then tried to run over the Po-Po on Cottage Ave, er, allegedly. Said someone ended up with hot lead in his ass, allegedly. Too bad for him.

Two persons involed in purposely setting up and shooting Detective Hemmingway pled guilty. Some attorney made a ridiculous statement about being where he shouldn't be ... like this isn't America or something. Anyway, one recieved 20 yrs in the plea for shooting a police officer, the other something like 5 yrs for helping.

IMO, those sentences SUCK ASS!

In the Smoot case, the jury has finally come back with their verdicts. One Corrections Officer was found guilty of 2nd degree murder in the stomping death of Raymond Smoot. A second CO was found not guilty.

Fall Violence is Here

According to the Fox 45 news channel, 13 people were shot over a two day period this weekend in B-more City, one of those 13 died. Robbery was stated as a motive in only one of the 13 Shootings.

The local newspapers listed 8 of the 13 incidents as follows:

Sun reporter

"A quadruple shooting early Saturday and another shooting yesterday - both in South Baltimore - left five men in critical condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Center, and three other people were hospitalized late last night after a multiple shooting in Northwest Baltimore, city police said.

In the latest reported incident, two men and a woman were shot about 10:20 last night outside a house in the Towanda-Grantley neighborhood, police said.

Officers responding to shots fired in the 4300 block of Reisterstown Road, just south of West Cold Spring Lane, found the victims bleeding from gunshot wounds. Police said ambulances took two of the victims to Sinai Hospital and one to Shock Trauma, Their conditions were unavailable last night. Police said they knew of no motive for the violence.

About 1 p.m. yesterday, a 42-year-old man was shot in the face and buttock with a shotgun while standing in a living room in the 2800 block of Eastshire Drive in South Baltimore's Lakeland neighborhood, police said.

The man ran out of the house and into a nearby field, where he collapsed. The victim, whose name was not available, was reported in critical condition at Shock Trauma.

On Saturday, Southern District police officers responded to the 1700 block of W. Pratt St., where they found three men who had been shot lying in the street, police said. A fourth wounded man was found in the nearby 1800 block of W. Lombard St., police said.

One victim had suffered gunshot wounds to his neck and upper lip; a second victim had a wound to an unspecified part of his body, and a third had gunshot wounds to his thigh and buttock. The victim found on West Lombard Street had gunshot wounds to his right leg and left side, police said.

The unnamed victims - ages 21 to 25 - were taken to Shock Trauma and were in critical condition yesterday, police said.

The BPD is transferring desk personnel to Patrol for a 30 day detail in order to fight the rising crime. Its the normal end of the year push. (aka Holiday deployment)

Expect a rise in the violence ... this happens every year in the fall season.

Park Heights residents are talking about the rumor of a serial killer in the area. Residents claim women are being tied up having their throats cut and the BPD is not informing them of the problem. We know there is a war raging in the NWD but a serial killer too? Its possible.

Tension on the Korean Front

Shots fired amid Korean tension

Well this certainly can not be good. There seems to be a lot of upset over the North Korean proposed nuclear test.

Early reports suggest that about 40 shots were fired when soldiers crossed into the demilitarised zone.

After intruding some 30 metres (yards), the Northern troops returned to their side of the military demarcation line, it added.
China threatening over shoes

The Chinese government is upset with EU accusations that they are dumping shoes at less than market prices.

Duh!!, everyone knows the Chinese sell things at lower prices .... its called competition.

Kissing Snakes

This guy is just whacko .... world record be damned!

Who says Asians aren't wild and crazy fun folks?

Its that time of the year

Yes folks, we have reached the beginning of heightened killing season. To avoid the murders rolling in like thunder, I suggest BPD get on their job and start picking off the known violent offenders. Leave the pissers alone for now ( unless they are known violent offenders) 'cause we are already at 210+ homicides.

Please do not take this officer with you, we'd like to avoid as many unecessary fires as possible. Along those lines, listen ladies, in the movie 'Waiting to Exhale', the offended female played by Angela Bassett did not torch the car for insurance purposes; she torched the car out of revenge and no claims were made. Let's get this straight, okay? BAD for insurance - GOOD for revenge.

A Baltimore Jury has reached the diliberation stage in the killing of Robert Smoot. One of the Correctional Officers accused has been aquitted, good for him it seems he was never involved.
"Smoot “was struck with sufficient force that he fractured a bone in his skull,” Hogan told the Baltimore City Circuit Court jury hearing the trial of Dameon Woods, James Hatcher and Nathan Colbert, the three former correctional officers who charged with second-degree murder in Smoot’s death May 14, 2005."
Continuing to follow the "Shredding" incident, the Federal Judge has ordered detailed written depositions from the three overtime workers paid to do the shredding. He's interested in what reasons they were given to do so.

Tidbits

Baltimore police officer accused of rape arrested again

Recused Officer Jemini Jones leads other officers on a car chase and is subsequently taken into custody. Side note, he had in possession a loaded sidearm although his police powers are suspended. So, hope ya got a handgun permit, if not, too bad for you.

Someone did not like former FOP President Roussey's traffic direction skills. Roussey was subsequently struck in the knee by the non patient driver. Did anyone check to see if the driver knows the current FOP President?

Shooting at Amish school results in 'number' of deaths
"Officials at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center confirmed that victims were being admitted there. A spokeswoman said the hospital anticipated treating more than one patient, but did not know how many."
This makes at least five school shootings in less than two months.

Crime and Politics

They're still going at it over the murder rate in the Governor's race. You can read the WaPo article if you're interested. Here's a blip:
"He made a promise that he couldn't keep and in retrospect probably shouldn't have made," said Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. (R), whom O'Malley is trying to unseat in November. "The murder rate in Baltimore is awful, and it's an embarrassment to the state of Maryland."
Police Arrest Numbnut After Fatal Shooting

Some numbnut shot his neighbor with a shotgun (killing him) and then barricaded himself inside his house. He later surrendered to police.
"Moses said the two men exchanged words while the victim was wiping down his truck, and the suspect went back into his house to get a shotgun."
Forty year olds ... old heads are crazy nowdays too. Is there something about the water in B-more?

Election Indignation - Fo Shizzle!

Maryland Governor Erhlich sent out a recent email containing implications of Baltimore Mayor O'Malley's leadership being investigated in an FBI probe into the Baltimore Police Department. The O'Malley camp of course cried "foul". During these outspoken interchanges in the news media, O'Malley appointees such as Kirsten Mahoney, Marcus Brown, and Commish Leonard Hamm have come out of the woodworks in support of the "meglomaniac". Btw, these peolpe would be the main subjects of a probe into the police agency since the poor tactics, pressure to make shitty arrests, and quota systems being used would fall squarely on their shoulders.

Coming forward in support moreso of the people of Baltimore than Erhlich is retired Judge Billy Murphy and State Delegate Jill Carter. Murphy was quoted in his analogy to Nazis and the PD tactics of locking up poor minorities most being released and never charged. Carter, of course, made the recent comments relative to O'Malley being a meglomanic. Not only do these two have a record of honesty they haven't been appointed to any six figure jobs by the Mayor which they aren't qualified to hold.

You can take a look at the most recent interchange here in the Baltimore Sun; that is until it disappears from circulation.

A few quotes for the readers should the article disappear:
"Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr.'s re-election committee asserts in a mailing that "The FBI is investigating Martin O'Malley's leadership of the police department" - a charge denounced yesterday as "malicious" by O'Malley's gubernatorial campaign and "disgraceful" by a top Baltimore police official."
"The brochure - the latest to slam O'Malley's record on crime - names no specific investigation, but states that "the FBI launched an investigation of the Baltimore Police Department and their involvement in theft, rape and evidence planting."
"But Baltimore City Deputy Police Commissioner Marcus Brown reacted angrily to the mailing, saying that "the FBI currently does not have an open investigation in relation to the leadership of the Police Department or Martin O'Malley's leadership of the Police Department."

As for the statement in the brochure that the FBI had launched an investigation of the department, he said it was "not true."
Oh, yes it is true.
"He also said that "for the Police Department to be used in this manner by any political campaign is disgraceful when it comes to the men and women who have died in the line of duty and who go out every night and try to make Baltimore safer."
"The campaign brochure further illustrates the sharply negative tone that has overtaken the governor's race in recent days. With Ehrlich trailing in the polls, he has focused intense criticism on Baltimore schools - some of which are the worst-performing in the state - and on crime.
In the past week, his campaign's attack on the city's crime rate has intensified. It began airing a radio commercial on black-orientated stations criticizing city police arrest policies that frequeand on Friday introduced two new television commercials attacking the mayor's record."
It would have been better for the Rookie to have said, "for the Police Department to be used in any manner by any political entity is disgraceful" ... If Marcus Brown were really concerned about the death of Police that would have been his comment; years ago.

Have fun! Fo Shizzle!
